The Power of Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and mindfulness are proven to support mental health by encouraging present-moment awareness, non-judgemental acceptance, and focused attention. These practices help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression by calming the nervous system and supporting emotional regulation.

Techniques such as breathing exercises, body scans, and intentional daily awareness can lower cortisol (the stress hormone), improve mood, and increase resilience. Research and lived experience both show that just 10 minutes of daily practice can lead to meaningful improvements in mental wellbeing.

Monday Meditation Sessions

At Trowbridge Service Users’ Group, Mondays are dedicated to meditation and mindfulness. Our sessions are gentle, inclusive, and suitable for beginners as well as those with previous experience.

So far, members have been working through the 7 Chakra system, exploring balance, grounding, and self-awareness. As the programme develops, we will move on to Reiki healing and other forms of meditation, always at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for those attending.

There is no pressure to participate—members are welcome to simply sit quietly, observe, or step out if they need to. After meditation, we continue with coffee, conversation, and relaxed social time.

A Supportive, Not Therapeutic, Space

Trowbridge Service Users’ Group is not a therapy service. We are a support service, focused on friendship, peer support, and helping people live the best life possible while managing mental illness. Many members attend simply for the company, knowing they are among people who understand.
