Trowbridge Service User Group has had a desire since moving to the Cabin to use the external space effectively and this year we are launching a number of new which we are call groups or teams. The projects which will give group members a whole new aspect of personal development.
One of our four new group projects is the gardening group. The Gardening group has two main goals with lots of mini goals that will help connect other new groups. The first goal is to beautify the space and create a sort of meditative space, and the second goal is to grow food to assist members and the local community in getting fresh vegetables.
Included in the mini goals are using the plants in art and craft projects, growing herbs and looking at traditional remedies, making herbal teas and tinctures.
As a peer support group, we understand not everyone is social, but everyone needs some socialization even if that’s just using the checkout at a supermarket. So, the group structure is semi-autonomous group members can just turn up at open session times look at the to do list and potter along.
The group lead will arrange “workdays” where you all get together and chat do whatever they need to be done.
So, if you like to potter in the garden and have a mental illness this may be what you have been looking for. This is not a heavy garden project like an allotment or farm it more like if your old enough the tv program “The Good Life.” Which Is the of basic idea using the space around you to live healthy.
We don’t have much money to do this, so we hope to get donations of seeds plants and tools to help in fact we have manage to get a large amount of garden tools as a donation much thanks to Ms X.
The Gardening group meets every Tuesday 10 till 12 at the cabin so if you’re interested, please drop in and have a chat.
The Gardening Group is always looking for donations of seeds, pots and plants
