We all know those days. The ones that start off just a little off-kilter. Your energy’s low, patience worn thin, and it feels like the world is queuing up to test your mood.
That was me today. I popped into town for a coffee and a bit of a wander before an appointment—hoping to find some calm in the quiet moments. I was alert, aware, and braced for anything… maybe a little too braced.

As I crossed the road near The Shires, I looked both ways—even though it’s a one-way street. I’ve learned not everyone follows the signs, so I stay cautious. As I stepped onto the pavement, I heard a short beep. I ignored it—wasn’t for me. Then came a long one. Instinct kicked in. I turned sharply, ready to give someone a piece of my mind.
And there, behind the wheel of a white car, wasn’t an angry driver—it was a mate, grinning and waving like a joyful puppet on double espresso.
I had to laugh.
It took me by surprise, in the best way. And in that moment, I realised something—two somethings, actually:
1. Anger often shows up before understanding.
We carry tension and pain that builds up under the surface. But sometimes, the person in front of us isn’t the one we’re really angry at. The anger is ours to understand, not always theirs to absorb.
2. The world holds more kindness than we expect.
When we meet life with a closed fist, we miss the hand that’s waving. But when we turn around with an open heart, we might just find someone smiling back.
So here’s a little parting wisdom from a day that started shaky and ended with a smile:
Let’s give the world, and ourselves, the benefit of the doubt. Show up with kindness, patience, and maybe a chuckle ready—just in case the universe decides to wave instead of honk.
