Last year the garden space was not used much, in fact it was mainly used by smokers and vapers. It’s not that the garden was unusable far from it. It was slightly uninviting or flat with no personality.
But this year our gardening team along with funding from Selwood Housing, the Garden has been transformed. With vegetables and herbs, flower beds and a solar water feature, we moved the seating on to the grass and hung bunting.
And although the garden is still in its very early stages our Tuesday drop in spent most of the time sitting in the sunshine, whilst on Thursday our dedicated art session didn’t happen because everyone sat out chatting, as each member arrived they walked in grabbed a chair and took it to the garden. Ice pops (ice poles) and jubby’s where available along with a range of drinks.
The Garden has taken on a new energy with our vegetables and herbs, not just because we will share or harvest between members and community fridges. But that is not only what we have planned, we have planted several herbs and spices that will be used in a short cause on healing teas and tinctures. As well as using flowers in future art projects.
We look forward to a good harvest otherwise we will be looking for funding to pay for a Fool who would be King for a day and a lot of wood lol.
